Endlesham Hall has been at the heart of community life in Balham since 1936. But while the hall remains popular with local groups, this much-loved building faces many challenges as it ages. To invest in our community, we want to build a new facility that is modern, sustainable and fit for the future.

March 2023: Planning approved!

We are thrilled to share that our planning application for a new Endlesham Hall has been approved by Wandsworth Council, giving this exciting project the go-ahead. Follow the links below to learn more about the vision for a new hall and how you can get involved.

I think Balham is crying out for a community centre and Endlesham Hall has the potential to be just that. A place for people of all faiths and interests to come together.

Having been a member of the church at the Hall, I have grown up in the local community and seen many people come and go, but all have one thing in common – wanting a place to feel welcome, at home and loved. This project excites me on a personal level, being an artist (both actor and musician) to see a space develop in which young people can express their art with more freedom and better facilities. But mainly my excitement comes for what it will mean for future generations, not just within the immediate local community, but a wider reach of young people who need a space like this to express themselves and feel included and a part of their developing city.

Working in the office of the Hall, I am only too aware of the need for additional community space in this area. I deal with a wide variety of enquiries many of which we cannot facilitate either due to lack of space or the present amenities being outdated and not fit for purpose, with no disabled access or toilets, only one kitchen situated at the back of the building, no soundproofing, an inefficient heating system
– the list goes on. At a time when loneliness is on the increase, our youth and young people have nowhere to go, community space is lacking and there is a need for housing, I strongly support a proposal which is self-funding and will leave a legacy for generations to come, on a site which has a long history of being part of this neighbourhood.

As a local who works in the immediate area and a father of three, I can only see positive things to come from the redevelopment which will be good for the surrounding communities. As a youngster growing up in South London, there was plenty to do by way of youth clubs and community projects. Today, it has been well publicised that there is less and less of this available. An opportunity to redevelop a building of such importance and keep children off the street will always get my vote.
